Rosemary Charters' Obituary
Rosemary (Peterson) Charters was born November 28, 1938 to Clarence and Mary (Slomkoski) Peterson in St. Paul, MN. She passed away in her home in Pittsburg, KS surrounded by her loved ones on November 22, 2025.
She graduated from Columbia Heights HS, Columbia Heights, MN in 1956. She moved to California and married LeRoy Charters on May 1, 1963, in San Diego. While LeRoy served in the Navy, she kept house in The Philippines, and California. After LeRoy retired from the military, they settled in Champaign, IL to raise their three children: Timothy, Marybeth, and Patrick.
She worked as a telephone operator in Minneapolis, and as the office manager for Catholic Charities in Champaign. After she retired, she moved to Starkville, MS to be near her daughter and family. In 2011, she moved with the Grimes family to Pittsburg, KS. She volunteered at St. Mary’s Bargain Corner, the Sunflower Kiwanis, the Lord’s Diner, the Widow’s Group, and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes. She enjoyed cheering on the Pitt State women’s basketball team, reading, and spending times with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Dennis, her husband, her oldest son Timothy, and lifelong friends Loran Shultz and Donna Rech.
She is survived by her daughter Marybeth (Paul) Grimes, her son Patrick (Brenda) Charters, her grandchildren Jacob Wilson, Lucas (Rachel) Charters, Beth (Jason) Harp, Adam Charters, Maryroze Grimes, and Spalding Grimes, and eight great-grandchildren, including one due in June, 2026.
Rosary will be said Sunday, November 30,2025 at 6:00pm, with family receiving friends from 6:30-8:00pm at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, Pittsburg, KS. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, December 1, at 10:00am, at Our Lady of Lourdes, Pittsburg. A gravesite ceremony will be at St. John’s Catholic Church, Foley, MN at a later date. Memorials can be made to either Catholic Charities or Sunflower Kiwanis, and left or sent to Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway, Pittsburg, KS 66762.
