Gerald R. Jones' Obituary
SCAMMON, KS – Gerald R. Jones, 86, of Scammon, died November 19, 2016 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, MO.
He was born July 8, 1930 at rural Scammon the son of Jay H. and Rosa B. Lampton Jones. He had been a lifelong resident of rural Scammon. He graduated from Weir High School in 1948.
Mr. Jones was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Army.
He married Verda M. Hand on December 18, 1954 in Pittsburg. She preceded him in death on January 30, 2004.
He was a self employed farmer his entire life.
Membership was held in the Black Diamond Masonic Lodge in Weir, the Weir American Legion Post, and a trustee on the Council Corners Cemetery Board, past member of the board of directors of COOP, Farm Bureau and the Cherokee County Rural Water District #4. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Survivors include four sons Jim Jones (Debbie) of Pittsburg, Doug Jones (Cynthia), Clay Jones (Jeanna) and Greg Jones (Kristy) all of rural Scammon, two brothers Cleo Jones of Weir and Leo Jones of Warsaw, MO, eight grandchildren Jerod Martin, Natalie McLaren, Corey Jones, Shelby Jones, Zach Jones, Brodey Jones, Karley Jones and Kerri Jones, two great grandchildren Gracen McLaren and Hudson McLaren, a sister in law Wilma Jones of Weir.
He was preceded in death by his wife Verda, two brothers String Jones and Jay Jones, five sisters Opal Bennett, Roberta Billington, Geraldine Belcher his twin sister, Ruby Soper and an infant sister Maxine Jones and a grandchild Samantha Jones.
Graveside services will be 2 pm Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at the Council Corners Cemetery rural Scammon with the Rev. Dennis Johnson, officiating. Military funeral honors at the graveside will be conducted by the Kansas Army National Guard. The Patriot Guard Riders will provide funeral escort. The Black Diamond Masonic Lodge will conduct Masonic services at 6pm Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir, KS. The family will receive their friends after Masonic services at the funeral home until 8pm. Pallbearers will be Corey Jones, Zach Jones, Brodey Jones, Jerod Martin, Derek McLaren and Cleo Allan Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Karley Jones, Kerri Jones, Shelby Jones, Natalie McLaren, Dewey Smith and Harry Cage. A memorial has been established to the Black Diamond Masonic Lodge or the Council Corners Cemetery in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be left at our web site www.bathnaylor.com
