Wilma J. Herman's Obituary
Wilma J. Herman, 96 of Pittsburg, KS died Monday, November 11, 2025 at Guest Home Estates in Pittsburg.
She was born October 18, 1929, to Sam and Bertha (Wegele) Schwartzkopf in Alexander, Kansas. She graduated from Utica, Kansas High School in 1947.
On October 27, 1947, she was united in marriage to Victor Herman; he preceded her in death May 22, 2009.
In 1952, they moved to Pittsburg, so Victor could attend vocational school at PSU. After he finished his schooling, they decided to stay in Pittsburg.
They were blessed with eight children, five boys and three girls. Sons – V. Eugene (Linda) of Hutchinson, KS; Alan (Donna) of Pittsburg; Michael (Kimberly) of Baxter Springs, KS; James (Theresa) of Pleasant Hill, KS; and Steven (Jenny) of Clearwater, KS. Daughters – Doris (Jerry) Sutton of Hoisington, KS; Diana (Kim) Main of Joplin, MO; and Lisa Herman, who became an angel on June 11, 1980.
She is survived by 20 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Lisa, parents, stepmother Ruth Keltner and her husband Howard, and two sisters, Jo Bauer and Evelyn Splitter.
Wilma enjoyed her church work with the Legion of Mary, St. Mary’s Altar Society, and Wichita Diocesan Council of Catholic Women.
She had worked for Jim’s Steak House for 42 years and later at Convenient Laundromat, as well as The Coach House, Wendy’s, Antonio’s Restaurant, and delivering papers for The Morning Sun.
She was also a Pink Lady at Via Christi. She loved being around people.
She loved when she traveled to Macon, Georgia, and San Antonio, TX, and other places in Kansas and Missouri.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 17, 2025, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with Father Caleb Kuestersteffen as celebrant. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery. The Parish Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, November 16, 2025, at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, where family will receive friends following the rosary until 5:30 p.m. Condolences may be let at www.bathnaylor.com. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Colgan and/or Our Lady of Lourdes Altar Society; these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
