William J. Mays' Obituary
William “Bill” Joseph Mays, 69, of Pittsburg, KS, passed away Saturday, September 16 at 11:01pm at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS.
William was born on September 13, 1954 to Robert and Wilma Mays in Pittsburg, KS. He was a member of the VFW, as well as the Mirza Shriners. William was a very talented welder, and worked for Watco in Pittsburg, KS for 16 years. He was also a gifted woodworker. William will be remembered by his family as a loving husband, father, son, brother, and grandfather, and he also had a special love for animals and travel.
William is survived by his wife, Mary Mays; his daughter Gina and Brad Morris, Bobbi Conlee, Amy Brewer, and Jamie and Craig Cook; his siblings, Debbie Gliser, Roberta Castellani, and Maxine Span; 13 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by both his parents, Robert and Wilma Mays; his sister, Judy Brooks; his brother, Ted Lee; his son Matthew William; and grandson Joseph Swartz.
William is to be cremated. The family will meet for a private viewing on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 and the family plans to hold an independent celebration of life at the South Broadway Baptist Church on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 1pm.
