William "Bill" Terence Gorman's Obituary
PITTSBURG, KS – William "Bill" Terence Gorman, 62, of Pittsburg, while surrounded by his family, went to be with his Lord at 11:25 pm, Monday, November 13, 2017 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS after a sudden illness.
A good and faithful servant, he was born March 2, 1955 in Ft. Scott, KS the son of Bernard and Edith Warzel Gorman. He had been a resident of Pittsburg for two years, moving from Parsons, KS.
A beloved husband, father, and “pappa” who devoted his life to his family, he was a pillar of strength and a source of endless compassion, always there to give of himself to others.
He married the love of his life, Sandra Guilfoyle, on July 30, 1977 at Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Ft. Scott, KS, and they remained as God intended until his last day; one body united. She survives at the home in Pittsburg.
Bill graduated from Pittsburg State University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Technology.
He was Manager of Quality Assurance with Day & Zimmerman at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons, KS for 30 years, prior to his retirement.
He was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg, KS. He was an avid Kansas University basketball fan and a Kansas City Royals fan. He and Sandy loved taking their golden retriever, Elsa, on daily walks. He was extremely proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed researching family genealogy.
He served as a coach and mentor in a variety of sports for hundreds of youth in the Parsons community.
Bill provided an incredible example in love and faith for his children and grandchildren. Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons Trenton Gorman and his wife Kelly of Joplin and Devin Gorman and his wife Misty of Pittsburg, one daughter Krista Farris and her husband Chris of Pittsburg, three brothers Timothy Gorman and his wife Brenda of Topeka, James Gorman and his wife Barbara of Topeka, Joseph Gorman and his wife Pamela of Independence, MO, six grandchildren including Grady Gorman, Quin Gorman, Everett Gorman, Brycen Farris, Corbin Farris, Kyndra Farris and was expecting his seventh grandchild Finn William Gorman in January of 2018.
He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, Kenneth and Ina Mae Guilfoyle.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00am Friday November 17, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg, with Father Michael Baldwin, as celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Michaels Catholic Cemetery in Fulton, KS. The parish rosary will be recited at 6:30pm, Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway in Pittsburg, KS. The family will receive friends after the rosary service at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to St. Mary’s Colgan Schools in care of the funeral home.
