Valeta Faye Brisbin's Obituary
Valeta Faye Brisbin 90, of Cherokee, KS died 3:08am Thursday January 1, 2026 at the Gran Villas Assisted Living in Pittsburg, KS following an illness. Faye was born January 21, 1935 in Atherton, MO the daughter of Price W. and Ola M. (Strange) Bledsoe. Faye attended area schools in Buckner and Atherton, MO. She moved to Cherokee, KS from Sibley, MO in 1985. Faye married Billy D. Brisbin on May 6, 1951 in Atherton, MO; he preceded her in death on December 12, 2008. Faye worked most of her life as a homemaker but worked for Lake City Army Ammo Plant for 10 years and a Grocery Clerk at the COOP in Atherton, MO. Faye was a member of the Six Mile Baptist Church in Sibley, MO; she loved to crochet, flower gardens, and family was the most important thing in her life.
Survivors include her children Norma Eileen Cox and husband Louis of Carl Junction, MO, Dorothy Brisbin and Doug Starr of Buckner, MO, Billy D. Brisbin Jr. and wife Kathy of Pittsburg, KS and Bryan Brisbin of Buckner, MO; son in law Bill Hardesty of Napoleon, MO; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Donna Hardesty, twin sisters Bethel Rae and Beverly Mae, son in law Rick Dewey and a great-great grandson Reed Walker Brisbin.
Celebration of Life will be 1:00pm Monday January 5, 2026 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir, KS with Pastor Josh Ritzheimer officiaing. Burial will follow at a later date at Cherokee Cemetery in Cherokee, KS. In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
