Tonia Lynn Turner's Obituary
Tonia Lynn Tuner 67, of Scammon, KS passed away peacefully Friday February 28, 2025.
Tonia was born on July 4, 1957 in Pittsburg, KS, the daughter of George Antone and Vernetta Mae (Crowe) Gabern. She was a lifelong resident of southeast Kansas and a graduate of Southeast High School.
In October of 1984, Tonia met Charles “Chuckie” Turner Jr. They later married on April 17, 1987, in Miami, OK; he survives at the home. Tonia worked for Miller’s Professional Imaging for several years and made many lifelong friends there. Later she worked for Columbus School District USD #493 in food service for 15 years retiring in 2018.
Tonia loved spending time with her kids and grandkids. She loved attending their birthday parties and watching all their school and sporting events. She was known as "Grammy T" to all that loved her, from her kids to her family. Born on the Fourth of July, she was born patriotic and loved Americana Décor. Growing up as a little girl she affectionately was known as “grasshopper” by her father. She was the apple of his eye. Tonia was very social and would often go visiting at her friends' houses, where they could chat for hours and hours. She was full of life and laughter and her friends have fond memories of her playing on their summer softball leagues. She was a wonderful cook and was famous for her no-bake cookies. She was so very proud of her children for their life accomplishments.
Survivors include her husband; children Shane Brodbeck and wife Patricia of Killeen, TX, Cori Silliman and husband Mike Glywa of Bucyrus, KS and Lynsey McMinn and husband Dustin of Cherokee, KS; sister Sandra Jameson of Cherokee, KS; grandchildren Alivia Brodbeck, A.J. Bregoli, Jhai Brodbeck, Malacai Registe, Brayden Silliman, Kinley Silliman, Dylan McMinn and Kaitlynn McMinn; one great-granddaughter on the way.
Tonia was preceded in death by her parents, sister Brenda Hale, brother Rick Gabern and a grandson Kaisyn McMinn.
Graveside Services will be 2:30pm Saturday March 22, 2025, at the Cherokee Cemetery in Cherokee, KS with Dustin McMinn officiating. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Solace House of the Ozarks www.solacehouseoftheozarks.com in Tonia's honor.
