Ted Joe Brynds Sr.'s Obituary
Ted Joe Brynds, Sr. 84 of Cherokee, KS died April 7, 2026 at his home.
He was born January 7, 1942 in West Mineral, KS the son of William James and Lavana Pearl (Deckard) Brynds.
He attended area schools and graduated from the Cherokee High School.
On June 3, 1988 he was united in marriage to Arelva Melton; in Pittsburg; she preceded him in death February 4, 2026. Ted was previously married to Kathryn Crim, they later divorced. She also preceded him in death as Kathryn Simpson.
He was a longtime member of the Scammon Holiness Mission in Scammon and the Cherokee Gun Club.
Ted worked for B & L Sheet Metal for many years.
Survivors include a son: Ted Joe (Bonnie) Brynds, Jr. of Greenfield, MO; step-children include three daughters: Karen (Randy) Almond of Chanute, KS, Brenda (Danny) Younger of Kansas City, MO, Michelle (John) Rion of Scammon and Jeff Simpson of Cherokee; a brother Bill Brynds of Cherokee; along with numerous grand, great-grand and great great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers: Albert Brynds and Mark Lovell.
Memorial services will be 11am, Friday, April 17, 2026 at the Scammon Holiness Mission. Family will receive friends Thursday evening at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Burial will be at the Cherokee City Cemetery, Cherokee, KS. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to his church family, Scammon Holiness Mission, 1st Street and N. 6th Ave., Scammon, KS 66773.
