Sarah Elizabeth (Betty) Tyree's Obituary
Sarah Elizabeth (Betty) McCormick Tyree, of Columbus, KS. went to be with her Lord and Savior, peacefully at home on Thursday February 27th, 2025, at the age of 98. Betty was born January 14th, 1927, to Harry Amos and Mabel Bennet McCormick. Betty was united in marriage to Henry Tyree, September 16th, 1944.
Throughout her life one thing was very evident and always foremost in her actions, her love for her family. She worked hard her entire life. As a child still living at home she cared for her younger siblings and would tell stories of them gathered around her while she sang to them, something she also did for her children and grandchildren. She loved to read, with so many littles to care for she told of catching a minute here or there to read a few pages, it was one of the very few things she did for herself, this love of reading was passed on too many of her family members. Early in her married life she would travel with her husband and young children to Idaho to work in the potato fields, picking up potatoes, she was proud to be able to out pick the others, due to her being low to the ground. She was quite proud of this and would chuckle when saying it. She spent endless hours in her garden and canning the harvest to provide for her family. She had a love for gardening as well as a knack for it. She told a story of being in her youth and while visiting her Oklahoma grandmother who was very particular about her garden and had a fence around it, this garden was off limits to all. However, her grandmother would allow her in the garden, this was special to Betty, and she shared the story with a smile on her face. Whether she was cooking delicious meals for her big family, never measuring or following a recipe, or crocheting baby blankets for as many of them as she could her love was in her actions. She spent so much of her time giving through her works, this devotion to her family through countless selfless actions was noticed and has left an impression on all our hearts and lives.
She is preceded in death by her husband Henry. Sons, Henry Lee and Charley. Daughter in-laws, Dolly Sharp Tyree, Rhonda Best Tyree and Lola Battalia Tyree. Grandchildren, Hiedi Tyree, Ronny Tyree, David Tyree, Roy Jay Tyree Jr., Billy Cashero. Parents, Harry and Mabel.
