I wanted to be and architect since I was four. I loved floor plans and drawing. In high school I signed up for drafting which made sense to me, but didn’t get in until junior year for some reason. I’d had tons of art, but I wanted technical drafting. So I got into Mr. Boyer’s class and felt he instantly didn’t like me. I was too creative: Sarwinski’s art room is down the hall. Ha! He highly doubted I’d make it as an architect. But it was him motivating me. Art came easy; detailed clear drawings took more discipline. He won me over and I like to think I won him over, too. He approved of my voracious love of the Beatles so that helped. I went to Architecture school at Kansas State, have been practicing in New York City for almost 20 years now, and became partner in my firm this year. I loved connecting with him again in the last year or so and ALWAYS enjoyed his perspective! What a cool, tough, kind onion of a man he was. Gone way too soon and deeply missed. You touched many lives, Mr. B, and I’m so grateful for you.
