Richard L. "Dick" Holt's Obituary
The family of Richard "Dick" L. Holt shares that he passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025. Richard was 90 years old.
Richard was born in Council Grove, KS on May 7, 1935 to Clinton Hartwell and Josephine Katherine (Kirkpatrick) Holt. He was united in marriage with Gladys A. (Hansen) Holt on December 29, 1957. He is survived by his daughters Cathy Strukel of Pittsburg, Susan (Bill) Kunshek of Girard, and Sylvia (Terry) Lechien of Derby, KS; eight grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren, his sister, Syliva Trujillo of Fort Scott, KS, as well as multiple nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys A. Holt, his parents, grandparents, and infant sister
Richard joined the United States Marine Corps at an early age, earning the rank of CWO-40302 USMC-Marine Gunner. He retired from the Marine Corps Reserves in the 1990s, Richard earned a Bachelor's in Chemistry from Wichita State University (WSU) and later returned to earn a Bachelor of Speech Pathology. He then earned his Master's in Linguistics from Kansas Teachers College of Pittsburg. During his Master's program, Richard worked as a Speech Pathologist for the Institute of Logopedics. He later opened a private practice clinic and finished his career working for Via Christi Health System as an Outpatient Speech Pathologist. Richard was a member of several organizations, including Lions Club, Pittsburg Miniature Train Club, and The International Brotherhood of Magicians.
A memorial service for Richard's life will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Bath Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway, Pittsburg, KS. Friends and family are invited to a visitation beginning at 10:00 a m., followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 am. Inurnment will take place immediately afterward at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 149 S Highway 69,
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Toys for Tots, K9s for Warriors or Semper Fi and America's Fund. Memorials may be dropped off or mailed to Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 North Broadway, Pittsburg, KS 66762.
