Michael E. Owen's Obituary
Michael Earl Owen age 74 passed away surrounded by his family on Dec. 30, 2023 at K.U. Medical Center.
He was born October 7, 1949 the son of John Douglas and Virginia (Thomas) Owen.
Mike grew up in Farlington, KS and attended both Farlington and Girard schools. After high school he joined the U.S Marines where he later served in Vietnam and was awarded a Purple Heart. After his honorable discharge from the Marines he married Terry Ausemus on April 3, 1971 and they had 4 daughters. They later divorced. On June 10, 2003 he married Ginger Johnson (McNeely) in Eureka Springs, AR, she survives of the home.
Mike worked at Keith’s IGA, Perfection Forms and Print Xcel before retiring in 2006.
He was a long time member of Countryside Christian Church as well as the VFW. Mike was known to all his family and friends as “Stud.” He enjoyed life and was such a kid at heart and never knew a stranger. He loved spending time with his grandkids and going to their activities. Mike played on the Farlington Lakers baseball team as well as several softball teams throughout his life. He also enjoyed playing golf, piddling on his tractor and riding his 4-wheeler with his dog Willie.
In addition to his wife Ginger, Mike is survived by 5 daughters: Krista Sandy (Rick Freeman), Robin (Bobby) Hawkins, Kelli Owen (Brandon Buckle), Kayla (Mike) Greif, Jenny (Eric) Jameson; a son: Jeff Johnson; brother: Danny (Cindy) Owen; sisters: Linda Farmer and Terrie (Sonny) Sprague; 18 grandchildren who had the privilege to call him Grandpa: Tanner Freeman, Maleah Sandy; Trevor Bruning-Roark, Taylor Lindsay, Jordan and Jayden Hawkins, Taylor Bruning; Dakota, Destiny, Danica and Alexa Lopez; Kynlee, Bristol and Paisley Greif; Luke, Caleb and Gracie Jameson; Casey Hernandez. Along with 7 great grandchildren and Willie his dog and best friend.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Sandra Jacquinet and grandson Drew Johnson.
Memorial services will be at 10am Monday January 8, 2024 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, Ks with Pastors James Frech and Daryl Gaddy officiating. Burial will follow in the Ft Scott National Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 2-4 pm at the funeral home. Condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor.com.
