In Loving Memory of Michael Wayne Moyer
July 29, 1960 – November 1, 2024
Michael Wayne Moyer (Papa), age 64, went home to his Lord and Savior on All Saints’ Day, November 1, 2024, surrounded by his family at his home in Columbus, KS, after a courageous battle.
Michael was born on July 29, 1960, in Columbus, KS, to John W. and Shirley L. Moyer. He was raised on the family farm and attended Columbus schools, graduating in 1978.
On June 3, 1991, Michael married Rebecca Fisher at Spring River Inn in Riverton, KS. They shared 33 years together. Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Rebecca (Becky) Moyer, of the home, and their family, which includes four sons: Shane Fisher, Timothy Moyer (Dianna), Stephen Moyer (Candice), and James Moyer (Theresa); three daughters: Christen Moyer, Misty Currey, and Tiffany Coleman (Tyler); his mother, Shirley Moyer of Columbus, KS; and two brothers, Gary Moyer (Lyn) and Mark Moyer (Ratava).,
From this union, their family grew to include 33 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and over 40 foster children. He is also survived by his loyal Blue Heeler, CassC.
Michael was preceded in death by his Father John W. (Bill) Moyer, maternal grandparents, Earl and Pearl Soper, and his paternal grandparents, Leslie and Minnie Moyer, all of Columbus, KS. He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Colten Fisher and Jordan Fisher.
Michael began working at an early age, learning mechanical and maintenance skills on the family farm. Despite being too small to fix some equipment himself, he could tell his mother what was wrong and how to fix it. Over the years, he worked at the Parsons, KS, Army Ammunition Plant, Davis Construction in Columbus, and eventually found his passion in concrete work, following in his brother’s footsteps.
In 2000, Michael established “Mike’s Concrete.” Together with his wife, they grew a successful business, building friendships with many clients who became like family. He was known for his dedication to perfection, regardless of the size of the job.
Michael gave his life to the Lord in 2005 and was a member of First Baptist Riverton Church, where he and his wife spent years teaching youth in their X4B program, one of their biggest blessings. Later, he became a member of Bar-None Cowboy Church in Afton, OK, where he helped teach Sunday School on horseback.
Michael’s life was full of passions, from classic cars in his high school days to his enduring love for horses. Known as a “horse whisperer,” he had a rare gift for taming and riding even the wildest horses. As a young boy, he traveled with his family to shodeos and play dates, earning countless ribbons and trophies. He is survived by two special horses, JosieRose and her son, Joey. He cherished walking children around on horseback and enjoyed full moon rides with his dear friend Brady Vanatta, sharing countless stories from their nighttime adventures. Michael and Becky also shared a love for rodeos and Professional Bull Riding events.
After their youngest daughter graduated, Michael and Becky opened their hearts and home to over 40 foster children, many of whom still keep in touch and share their milestones.
Michael will forever be remembered as “The Rock” who held the family together. He was always ready to lend a helping hand or offer support to anyone in need.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus, KS. Visitation will take place on Friday, November 8th, 2024, from 6pm to 8pm. Service will be held on Saturday, November 9th, 2024, at 2pm.
Donations may be made to the funeral home to assist with final expenses. The family invites all who attend to keep it country and wear western attire in honor of Michael.
For his final journey, Michael will take his last ride by horse and buggy from the funeral home to Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbus, KS, following the service.
