Mary Carole Kemmeter's Obituary
Mary Carole Kemmeter, 82, Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2020, at Ascension Via Christie after a long battle with COPD.
Mary was born August 1, 1938 in Keshena, Wisconsin, on the Menominee Indian Reservation, to Marvin and Catherine (Penass) Kuester. She attended St. Joseph's Indian School, graduated from Shawano Wisconsin High School, and received a Business Degree from Spencerian Business College in Milwaukee. After graduation, Mary worked for the Menominee Indian Tribe business office until her marriage to Peter Kemmeter on October 29, 1960. She moved to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin where she worked for the County Extension Office until the birth of their first daughter. Mary remained a stay at home mother to their eleven children, including three adopted Menominee Indian children. In March of 1991, the family moved to Pittsburg with the seven youngest. Mary's live was devoted to being “Muzzy” to the kids and their friends. Any stray cat that found its way to the back door found a home in her cat room.
Mary is survived by her husband Peter, two sons, Paul (Stacy), Overland Park, KS, James, nine daughters Carole (Steve) Gescheidle, Appleton, WI;Anne Kemmeter, Los Angeles, CA; Jean Kemmeter, Parsons, KS; Aimee Tabor, Laguna Beach, CA;Leah (Marvin) McLaughlin, Riverton, KS; Emily (Scott) Mueller, Middleton, WI; Laura Kemmeter, Green Bay, WI; Tonia (Enoch) Kaulaity, Lawrence, KS; and Christine (Rick) Ellsworth, Pittsburg, KS, twenty two grandchildren, Michael Geschidle (Crystal) Gescheidle, Nicole (Jared) Klotz, Catherine (Ryan) Schlink, George and Elise Tabor, Mahni, Dylan, and Josephine McLaughlin, Laura's six, Katlyn, Caleb, and Alex Kaulaity, Olivia, Sophia, and Abigail Kemmeter, and two great grandchildren, Leo Gescheidle and Lauren Klotz. She is further survived by a sister Kay Charkandy, Shawano, Wi and a brother-in-law, Donald Hoffman, Gresham, WI. She was preceded in death by he parents Marvin and Catherine Kuester, a brother Keith, sisters Anna Hoffman and Phyllis Kuester, father and mother-in-law Peter and Mary Kemmeter.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father; her brother, Keith Thomas; her sisters, Phyllis Ann and Anna Mae; and mother and father-in-law, Peter and Mary Kemmeter.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00am Tuesday December 15, 2020 at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Jerome Spexarth as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS. Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm Monday December 15, 2020 at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg, KS; family will receive friends following the rosary. In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Fund.
