Mary Cordelia Jones' Obituary
Cherokee, KS – Mary Cordelia (Kilger) Jones, 95, of Cherokee, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Via Christi Village in Pittsburg, KS.
She was born October 3, 1921 in Weir, KS the only child of Martin and Ada Cote’ Kilger. She attended Weir Grade School, Cherokee High School and graduated from Kansas State Teachers College in 1942, majoring in Home Economics, Education and a minor in business.
She married Melvin Meryl “Casey” Jones on June 1, 1945 in Weir, KS. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1979.
Mrs. Jones was a school teacher and taught 2nd grade at Cherokee Grade School for 19 years.
She grew up and raised her family in the Catholic faith. She was a member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, KS.
Survivors include four daughters Marta Wishart (Jim) of Wichita, Connie Bettega (Gary) of Claremore, OK, Linda Mosier of Nevada, MO and Beth Wilson (Scott) of Girard, KS, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am Saturday, October 22, 2016 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, KS with Father Chrysostom Ah Maung, as celebrant. Pallbearers will be James Wishart, Gary Bettega, Scott Wilson, Casey Bettega, Eric Wilson and Seth Wilson. Altar servers will be Eric Wilson and Brody Joachims. Burial will be in St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in Weir, KS. The parish rosary will be recited at 10:40am Saturday at the church. Friends may call from 1 to 5 pm Friday, October 21, 2016 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir, KS. A memorial has been established to St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in Weir, KS in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be left at our web site www.bathnaylor.com.
