Lonnie Joe Wilson's Obituary
Lonnie Joe Wilson, 81 of Weir, KS died Wednesday April 20, 2016
at his home in Weir.
He was born May 6, 1934 in Pittsburg, KS the son of Clem and
Allie (Tackett) Wilson.
The stories of his youth read like the pages from a Hemmingway
novel, from hopping freight trains with his brothers, cross country
adventures with colorful friends & harrowing mountain pass escapes
barely ahead of blasting crews. He was always a bit of a gypsy. More
recently, he enjoyed bird watching, motoring around the yard in his
scooter and shooting the occasional squirrel through the kitchen window.
The years in between he spent providing for his family trimming
trees, buying and restoring Army jeeps and trucks. He spent as much
time as possible discovering every hidden fishing hole between Weir and
Manhattan, KS, where he purchased the jeeps.
Lonnie is survived by his wife Barbara of the home; children Joey
Wilson and wife Jeanette of Lawton, Laura Burton of Mission, and Molly
Leonard and husband AI of Pittsburg, Gary, Ronnie, Lonnie Jr. and Jack
Wilson; sisters Gloria Scholes and Juanita Milleman; Grandchildren-
