June Shipman's Obituary
June Shipman 86, of Pittsburg, KS died 6:21am Thursday September 12, 2024 at the Mercy Hospital in Pittsburg, KS following a short illness.
June was born April 28, 1938 in Pittsburg, KS the daughter of Charles E. and Dorothy Mae (Ramsey) Smirl. She was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Pittsburg High School. June married George L. Shipman in Miami, OK; he preceded her in death on November 14, 1994. Later her companion of 20 years Sonny Lawrence; he preceded her in death in 2017.
June was known by many as the longtime housekeeper for the “Old Mt. Carmel Hospital” later Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS for 53 years. She was known and loved by all who knew her and always had a smile on her face. June was of the Christian Faith; she loved collecting chickens, roosters, rabbits and frogs. She loved to shop and go junking with Jim in her free time. She loved her “Hey Dude” shoes and will be most remembered for her love of her kids and grandkids.
Survivors include her children Jim Smirl and wife Cindy of Frontenac, KS and Chuck Smirl and wife Alice of Girard, KS; sisters Charlotte Boyer of Frontenac, KS and Irma Brown and husband Jim of Grove, OK; grandchildren Zach Smirl (Oom), Josh Smirl, Stefanie Smirl (Grant), Jacob Smirl (Emily); great-grandchildren Haiden Smirl, Dakota Prasertsukhon, Julian Barnett and Cody Barnett. In addition Justin Shipman and family; Michelle Shipman and family; Jeffery Shipman and family; Tina Stewart and family and many nieces, nephews, friends and work family.
June was preceded in death by her sisters Bee Mitchell and Betty Short and a brother Sonny Smirl.
Funeral Services will be 11:00am Tuesday September 17, 2024 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS with Pastor Jim Sukraw officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS. Family will receive friends from 5-7:00pm Monday September 16, 2024 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS; friends may call after 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the Phi Tau Omega Sorority. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 522 S.
