John "Johnny" P. Carpino's Obituary
John P. “Johnny” Carpino, 86 longtime resident and business owner in Scammon, KS died peacefully at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday June 14, 2016 at the Maude Norton Hospital in Columbus, KS surrounded by his family.
He was born September 13, 1929 in Roseland, KS the son of Mike and Rose (Zaccarello) Carpino. He attended elementary schools in Roseland and was a graduate of Cherokee County High School in Columbus. John lived his entire life in the Scammon and Pittsburg areas. John married JoAnn Birdsell on August 4, 1962 in Scammon, KS; she preceded him in death on August 16, 2005. He worked for Dickey Clay Pipe, Parsons Army Ammunition Plant, Goodrich Tire, Cherokee County Road Crew and was the owner/operator of Carpino Retail Liquor Store in Scammon. John was a member of the St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, the Scammon Knights of Columbus, welders and pipe fitters local #441 and an active member of the Cherokee County Democrat Party. Survivors include 2 daughters Lori Carpino and Cheri Tedlock of Scammon; a brother Mike Carpino and wife Jamie of Lee’s Summit, MO; a granddaughter Samantha Tedlock of Scammon; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 sisters Dorothy Carpino, Mary Pomatto; 5 brothers-Fred, Santo, Jim, Tony and Frank Carpino. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday June 18, 2016 at the St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, KS with Father Chrysostom Ah Maung as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Bridget’s Cemetery. The parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Friday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir where family will receive friends following until 7:30 p.m. Condolences can be sent to www.bathnaylor.com Memorial contributions can be made to Masses in John’s name or to the St. Bridget’s Catholic Church Building Fund.
