Jerry Lee McClendon's Obituary
Jerry Lee McClendon 78, of Arma, KS died 2:53pm Sunday March 5, 2023 at the Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO following a short illness.
Jerry was born March 28, 1944 in Gross, KS the son of Thomas and Emma Ethel (Duvall) McClendon. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Arcadia High School. He was a member of the Army National Guard. On June 25, 1965 Jerry married Marilyn J. Peternell in Arcadia, KS; she survives at the home. Jerry worked as a Truck Driver for Ryder Oil Company known now as Castagno Oil Company for many years. He later became an owner and driver of his own truck. He also drove and was a tech assistant for Alliance Imaging Company performing PET scans on cancer patients. He also worked for Superior in Pittsburg, KS before retirement.
Jerry in his free time enjoyed gardening, nature, his UTV, his cats, cutting wood or otherwise enjoying the great outdoors. He was known to even feed deer by hand at his farm.
Survivors include his wife; son Gary McClendon and Stacey Greenwood of Arma, KS; sister Bertha Hencey of Arma, KS; sister-in-law Steffany Peternell of Arma, KS; nephews Michael Peternell and wife Karen of Arma, KS, Jeffrey Petternell and wife Laurie of Arma, KS; great niece Michelle Holder; great-nephews Derek Beam, James Peternell and Timothy Peternell.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and brother in laws Richard Hencey and Mickey Peternell.
Graveside Services will be 10:00am Friday March 10, 2023 at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS with Pastor Duane Elmore officiating. Family will receive friends from 9-9:30am at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac, KS prior to graveside services. In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to American Legion Auxiliary Post 182. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to Friskel Funeral Home 230 E.
