Jerry Mattox's Obituary
Jerry T. Mattox, 86, of Columbus, KS, passed away on Saturday, September 16 at 5:05pm, at Medicalodges in Columbus, KS.
Jerry was born on February 27, 1937 to Shelby and Aletha (Hevel) Mattox in rural Neosho county, KS. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1954, and was then united in marriage to Carol (Robison) Mattox in 1956, who survives of the home. Jerry was a skilled mechanic and repairman, and operated various businesses in Columbus over the years, including Mattox Motors, Mattox Body Shop, and Columbus Auto Salvage. He was a member of the Columbus Christian Center, and served his community on the Columbus City Council as well as the East Side Association of Columbus. Jerry will be remembered as someone who was passionate about travel, especially by motorcycle, with many special memories made touring the country with his wife Carol.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Carol Mattox; his son, Dave and Julie Mattox; son-in-law Kent Tomlinson; brother Ed and JoAnn Mattox; grandchildren Shelby and Cameron Sale, Jake and Libby Mattox, and Alex and Kayla Karriman; and 9 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by both his parents, Shelby and Aletha Mattox; and his daughter, Sherry Tomlinson.
Jerry is to be cremated, and the family will hold a memorial service independently on Sunday October 1, 2023 at 2pm at the Columbus Christian Center. Arrangements are made by the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home and Crematory of Columbus, KS. Condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor.com.
