James H. Grotheer's Obituary
James H. Grotheer 87, of Pittsburg, KS died 11:20am Monday October 18, 2021 at the Medicalodge Nursing Home in Frontenac, KS following an illness.
James was born June 29, 1934 in Pittsburg, KS the son of Paul and Besse (Holley) Grotheer. James was a lifelong resident of Pittsburg and attended Pittsburg Schools. James was a Veteran of the United States Army.
James married Joann Zagar in the fall of 1956. James worked for 50 years as a carpenter in Pittsburg, KS. He was a member of the Lutheran Church; he enjoyed following the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and Pittsburg State University athletics. In his free time he enjoyed camping at Grand Lake in Grove, OK and spending time with friends and family.
Survivors include his children Tom Grotheer, Elizabeth Carter, and Rod Grotheer of Pittsburg, KS, John Grotheer and wife Jeannie of Arma, KS and Theresa Brunskill and husband Jerad of Breezy Hill, KS; brothers Bob Grotheer of Pittsburg, KS and Richard Grotheer of Weir, KS; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his parents, son Brent and brother Kenny Grotheer.
Funeral Services will be 7:00pm Friday October 22, 2021 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS with Pastor Gary Monnens officiating. Burial will be at a private date at Mt. Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS. Family will receive friends from 6-7:00pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Friends may call the funeral home after 11:00am on Friday. In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the Pittsburg American Legion. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 522 S.
