Frances Ellen Potter's Obituary
Frances Ellen Potter 95, of Columbus, KS died 11:15pm Tuesday May
17, 2016 at the Medicalodge Nursing Home in Columbus, KS following
an illness.
Frances was born September 7, 1920 in Willimantic, Connecticut the
daughter of Wells Sterling Wilcox and Beatrice Anderton.
Frances has lived in the Columbus, KS community for the last 20 years.
Frances was a Veteran of the United States Army serving her country
from Jul 1944 – Jul 1946. She served in the Women’s Army Corps and
was stationed at the Pentagon decoding messages. After her military
service she earned her master’s degree in education and later taught
elementary school in Japan, Connecticut and California.
On April 30, 1955 Frances married Gordon J. Potter in Las Vegas, NV;
he survives at the home.
Frances was of the Episcopalian Christian Faith and loved cooking and
reading in her spare time.
Survivors include her husband; nieces and nephews Vivian Potter of
Temecula, CA, Lisa Potter Scoggins of Goleta, CA, Doug Potter of
Tualatin, OR, Anna Cronshaw of Montecito, CA, Jim Potter of Florida,
David Phillips of Southeast Asia and 12 great-nieces and nephews;
brother-in-law Orin Potter of Goleta, CA.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents and sister Mary Elizabeth
Phillips.
Private ceremonies will take place at a later date. E-mail condolences
