Flyod D. Simon's Obituary
Floyd D. Simon 93 of Frontenac died April 29, 2016 at the Arma Care
center in Arma, KS.
He was born in Cherokee, KS on December 25, 1922 to John and
Margaret (Castagno) Simon.
He attended schools in both Cherokee, KS and Mindenmines, MO.
Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps. He was
trained in the repair, installation and testing of the then "top secret"
Norden bombsight and Honeywell auto pilots utilized on the B-17 and B-
29 bombers. After two and a half years in Hobbs New Mexico he was
reassigned to the 20th Air Force in Tinian.
He was discharged in April of 1946 and later that year married Lucille
Moriconi on August 11th. She survives at the home.
He worked at Prairie Center in Missouri for four years, later operated the
Bowlmor Bowling Alley in Pittsburg for two years and then became a
salesman for Bowlus School Supply retiring in 1984.
He was a fifty year member of the Frontenac American Legion Post 43
and was an avid supporter of Frontenac sports. He enjoyed spending
time with his family along with fishing, gardening, playing cards, and
never met a stranger.
Survivors include three sons: John (Connie) Simon of Port Allen, LA.,
Tony (Jeanette) Simon of Arma, KS and Bob (Barbara) Simon of Orange,
TX; Four grandsons, two granddaughters and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Marie Polston.
Funeral services will be 10am, Tuesday May 3rd, 2016 at the Friskel
Funeral Home in Frontenac, KS. Burial will follow at the Garden of
Memories with full Military Services. The family will receive friends at the
funeral home from 7-8 pm on Monday evening. All donations to be given
to the Ol’ Glory Flag Fund American Legion Post 43 Frontenac, KS.
