As a youngster, I had a paper route and the Dochow’s were my customers. The paper back then was $1.95 a month, so I kept a pocket full of nickles for change. The first time to collect, Gene made sure that I knew how to count back change. And from that point on, I was “required” to count back that 5 cents. A lesson I will never forget. The Dochow’s were the best. He will be missed by many.
Uncle Gene was an incredible man with a genuine heart! I pray his legacy lives on through all of the lives he’s touched over the years.
Mr. Dochow was one of a kind, both as an educator and as a gentleman. I was blessed to have him as a teacher for two years in high school. After moving back to Columbus, he got me involved in the Ambulance Association and I was honored to serve on the board upon his retirement. My wife and I loved he and Norma dearly and will miss him, although we recently moved to Oronogo, Mo. There is a special place in heaven for him.
Mr. Dochow has made such a one-of-a-kind wonderful impact in the lives of everyone in our community. He will be truly missed!
