Elizabeth "Betty" J. Schmitt's Obituary
Elizabeth J. "Betty" Schmitt, 88, of Pittsburg, KS passed away Monday, December 18, 2017 at her home.
Betty was born July 21, 1929 in Dyersville, IA the daughter of Antone and Rose (Tierschel) Steger. On May 30, 1953 Betty married Roger in Dyersville, IA; he preceded her in death on August 4, 1994.
Betty attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg, KS and was a member of the Alter Society and Widows Group. She also volunteered at the St. Mary's Colgan Good Will Center and the Newman Center for 15 years.
Survivors include her son, John Schmitt and his wife, Melody of Lenexa, KS and their children, Kevin Schmitt and Lindsey Reynolds; daughter, Jean Kirby and her husband, Steve of Monroe, NE and their children, Zach Kirby, Krystin Hite and Eric Kirby; son, Steve Schmitt and his wife, Brenda of Diamond, Mo and their kids, Katie Tyson, Adam Schmitt and Sara Leach; daughter, Mary Kay Leigh and her husband, Ron of Los Angeles, CA; daughter, Janet Schmitt of Overland Park, KS; brother, Norbert Steger and 11 great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, December 22, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg, KS, burial to follow at Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS. Rosary will be Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 7 p.m. at Bath-Naylor Funeral home in Pittsburg, KS, family will receive friends an hour before the rosary.
In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Fund or the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to Bath-Naylor Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Bath-Naylor Funeral Home of Pittsburg, KS.
