Doris Elizabeth Wells' Obituary
Doris Elizabeth Wells, 93, of Pittsburg, KS, died at 7:22 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2016, at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS, following a short illness.
Doris was born October 25, 1922, in Kahoka, MO, the daughter of Isaac Newton and Cora Belle (Christy) Lewis. Doris was a graduate of Kahoka High School; she has been a member of the Pittsburg community since 1994. Other residences include Burlington, KS, Rogers, AR and Pharr, TX.
On February 1, 1941, Doris married Chester Ray Wells in Kahoka, MO; he preceded her in death on January 22, 2009.
Doris was a homemaker, a member of the United Methodist Church, a talented seamstress, cook, housekeeper, game player, bookkeeper, puzzle doer and crafter. She also enjoyed following sports and participating in Bible studies.
Survivors include her children Renee Hawkins and husband Darrel of Augusta, KS, Jeffrey Wells and wife Dawn of Pittsburg, KS, and Stacy Clark and husband Joe of North Little Rock, AR; daughter-in-law Bertie Wells of Bass, AR; siblings Marianna Derr of Keokuk, IA, Norma Hatridge and husband Ken of Seattle, WA, and Nelda Farthing of Fayetteville, AR; grandchildren Heidi Wells, Marti King, Andrew Hawkins, Daniel Hawkins, Kristen Davis, Erin Kellogg, Emily Clark, Anna Grace Clark, Austin Clark; great-grandchildren Zachary Stambuck, Nicholas Stambuck, Madalaine Hughes, Gabriel Wells, Josephine Wells, Matthew King, Nathaniel King, Gavin Hawkins, Dayton Hawkins, Eli Hawkins, Calvin Hawkins, Hayden Kellogg, Addison Kellogg, Drew Davis, Cora Davis, Violet Davis, and one great on the way; great-great grandchildren Ryleigh Hughes and Arwen Porter.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, son Ron Wells, siblings Evelyn Gorrell, Marjorie Lewis, I.N. Lewis, Dean Lewis and Duane Lewis, a grandson Jacob Wells, and grandson-in-law Danny King.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 28, 2016, at the Via Christi Village Chapel with Chaplain Adah Hutchcraft officiating. Burial will follow at the Ft. Scott National Cemetery in Ft. Scott, KS. Family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Thursday, October 27, 2016, at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS. In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the United Methodist Church, Pittsburg, KS.
