Donald Glen Callow's Obituary
COLUMBUS, KS – Donald Glen Callow, 96, of Columbus, died Monday, October 24, 2016 at his home.
He was born July 14, 1920 in Pawnee Station, KS the son of William Arthur and Mary Elizabeth Gravitt Callow. He had been a resident of Columbus since the early 1940’s moving from West Mineral, KS, where he graduated from High School in 1937.
Glen was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army Air Corp and was honorably discharged as a Corporal on March 17, 1946. He received the American Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Ribbon.
He married Florence Meriaux on June 29, 1940 in Columbus, KS. She preceded him in death on August 17, 2002
He had been a sales representative for most of his life working for Price Motor Company in Columbus, Federated Insurance and for Hart & Cooley Manufacturing, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the Columbus Methodist Church, a 72 year member of the Columbus American Legion serving as past commander, past District Commander and past Adjutant, membership chairman Columbus American Legion, Maude Norton Hospital Board member for several years, and a life member of the Columbus Country Club. He also received the Chris Award in Columbus, was inducted into the Columbus Sports Hall of Fame, and was a member of the Committee of four that started the Columbus Community Field and was a life member of the Air Force Gunners Association.
Survivors include one son Terry L. Callow (Barbara) of Pittsburg, one daughter Donna Rae Pace (Jim) of Columbus, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers Harold Callow and M. Ray Callow, one sister Phyllis Hey, one grandson James Craig “Jay” Pace, an infant great-granddaughter Madalyne Glenn Perry and a grandson in law Gordon Peterson.
Services will be 11am Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus, KS, with the Rev. Dennis Johnson, officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in the Park Cemetery in Columbus, KS. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 pm Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the funeral home. Active pallbearers will be Kim Perry, Mike G. Pace, Chris Callow, Mike J. Pace, Jim Pace and Terry Callow. Honorary pallbearers will be Leo Evans, Dean Teel, Eddie Hamilton, Charlie Martin, Tony Gonzales and Jerry Hulvey.
