Dale G. Roberds' Obituary
Dale G. Roberds, 95, of Pittsburg, KS, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2024. He was born October 11, 1929, in Pittsburg, KS, to Lester and Alice (Lawver) Roberds. He attended Owsley Schoolhouse and later graduated from Columbus High School.
Dale Roberds was a man of passion, and he lived in a way that nobody ever questioned his passion. His passions were very evident: Faith, Family, and Farm.
Dale's passion for agriculture started at a very early age. As early as seven years of age, he ran a team of two horses and a single bottom plow. At the age of 94 he was riding a tractor with 520 horsepower. He farmed through historic droughts, and historic floods. He withstood economic recessions, and flourished in economic booms. He worked and lived by phrases like, "If you're standing still, you're moving backwards," "Don't let the grass grow under your feet," and "If you love what you do, it's not work."
Dale was no stranger to hard work and progress. He not only wanted to see his farm progress, but also the entire industry. He dedicated a lot of his time to advocacy organizations like Kansas Farm Bureau, American Farm Bureau, Kansas Soybean Association, and American Soybean Association. He served on county boards, state boards and committees, and national boards in those organizations, and more.
September 3, 1949 Dale married Lois Black of Pittsburg, Kansas. In 1955 they purchased their first farm where they raised their three children. They later divorced.
September 27, 1997 Dale married Phyllis Kasselman of Pittsburg, Kansas.
Dale has dedicated his life to creating a legacy that will be remembered by his wife, Phyllis and their children; Glenna Jenkins and her husband, Dave, of Florida; Diana Turnbull; Brad Hanson and his wife, Jennifer; Tara Snow and her husband, Brad; and Stacey Webb and her husband, Rick, all of Pittsburg; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Alice Roberds; his son, Keith Roberds; son-in-law, David Turnbull; and sister, Omadine Hoyer.
