Dakota Lee Jones' Obituary
Nov 21, 2022: Dakota Lee Jones, 33, or Weir, KS, left this world on his last journey home just one day shy of his 34th birthday. Anyone knowing him knows he never did things the easy way in life, just as he is proving to do in death. He was one of a kind who marched to his own drummer, always thinking outside the box. He had an enormous heart with a desire to help others, often when he himself was in need….Thru the past year, he has worked hard to turn his life around. Something we are all proud of, but something he was very proud of as well. He has spent time over these last few months reconnecting with so many friends and family. He was enjoying working alongside his dad learning how to erect steel buildings in Coffeyville, KS. Dakota graduated in ’07 from Southeast H.S. and later got his degree in construction from Coffeyville Community College, Columbus, KS., as well as classes in welding and machine shop.
There was not a challenge that he didn’t accept, nor was he afraid to work hard to achieve. Dakota loved his music, art, playing and teaching chess, skateboarding, hanging with his friends, enjoying the outdoors, and playing foosball. Most of all, he loved hanging with his best lil buddy, Julian. The sun rose and set in his daddy….his hero. They enjoyed fishing, critter hunting, video games, just chilling, watching movies, and were looking forward to riding their new motorcycles together. So many special relationships he built throughout his years. In just the past few months, he had a peace and love in his heart knowing he had finally found the love of his life, Jessica Greene and son, Jaxon Westervelt.
He has left behind a magnificent gift. We have gained a feeling of family through her and through her very special mom, Carla Tackett and family for which we will always be grateful. His mother, Carole Jones, survives Dakota along with his son Julian Jones, both of the home. His father, Robert Jones 2nd and wife Paula of Mannford, Okla., brother Jeromy Averyt and wife Mandy of Skiatook, Okla., sister Crystal and brother Robert Jones 3rd. He had many extended families, Trenton Dentis of Sand Springs, Okla., James (Jed) Dentis of Tulsa, Okla., Ronnie Johnson of Tulsa, Okla., Preceding him in death are his maternal grandparents, Jack and Louise Bruyr, formerly of Weir, KS., his paternal grandparents, Robert Jones 1st and Jean, formerly of Broken Arrow, Okla., and a sister Jamie Phillips and Tristan Dentis from his extended family. In his heart, he held a very special place for everyone including so many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
Dakota Lee Jones, you will forever live in our hearts. A quote from one of your favorite movies, “May the winds always be at your back and the sun upon your face and may the wings of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars.” Cremation has been handled by Bath Naylor Funeral Home and Crematory, Weir, KS.
Please join us in honoring Dakota in the way he deserved. The family has decided to hold a Celebration Of Life, hopefully outside in warmer weather as we all know he did not like the cold. This gives us time to see Julian thru his Christmas. We will announce the information enough ahead of time in order to include everyone. Thank you to all who have reached out to help Julian have a great Christmas, and to show your love and support, to share your stories, you know who you are. May the magic of the season fill your hearts and homes with peace and love. May your travels be safe. God bless, from our family to yours.
