Carolyn S. Martin's Obituary
Cherokee, KS – Carolyn S. Martin, 81, of Cherokee, died September 8, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO.
She was born January 10, 1936 in Weir, Kansas the daughter of Albert and Elizabeth “Lizzie” (Hardee) Owen.
Carolyn married Donald L. Martin on September 17, 1955 at Sacred Heart Church in Weir, Kansas. He preceded her in death.
She was employed by Hagman’s Inc. and retired from the Kansas Teachers Community Credit Union. She was a part-time employee at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir, Kansas.
She was a member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, Scammon, KS.
Carolyn was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed playing cards with her dear friend, Doris Naylor. She was an avid reader and most of all, enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include 2 daughters; Deborah (Tim) Burns of Weir, KS, Mary (Dennis) Burke of Pittsburg, KS, 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and 3 sisters; Anna Schmidt, Margaret Brownlee, and Jackie McClure.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am, Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Scammon with Fr. Jeremy Huser as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Bridget's Catholic Cemetery. Parish rosary will be recited at 6 pm Monday, September 11, 2017 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir. Family will receive friends following the rosary until 7pm. Condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor.com.
Family will receive friends at Mary Burke’s home, 412 W. Quincy, Pittsburg, Kansas 66762.
Memorials may be left to the St. Bridget’s Catholic Cemetery; these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home. Services by the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home of Weir.
