Billie Marie Norman's Obituary
Billie Marie Norman, 75, of Pittsburg, Kansas died on Saturday, May 4, 2024. She was born February 2, 1949 to Robert Leo Norman and Dorothy Waldene (Duke) Norman in St. Louis, Missouri.
Billie grew up in St. Louis and spent much of her summers enjoying nature at Meramec State Park. She graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in St. Louis in 1967 and from Northeast Missouri State College in 1971 with a degree in Physical Education. She was married to Jim Clark from 1976 to 1982. Billie loved working with children and youth; caregiving and teaching seemed to come naturally to her. She worked as a PE teacher and a YMCA Youth Program Director, and she enjoyed sharing stories of past adventures, especially taking a group of girls canoeing on the boundary waters bordering Canada. She later owned Clark’s Produce Company, transitioned to employment at Miller Ham Company, and eventually cared for older adults in their homes before retiring and moving to Pittsburg in 2014.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents, Leo “Curley” Norman and Dorothy “Dot” Norman, her niece, Debbie Norman, and her nephew, Eric Kientzy. She is survived by her brother and sister, Bob Norman and Terry Kientzy; her sister-in-law, Norma Powell, her nephew, Scott Norman and his wife Kristen Humphrey and their 4 children; her niece, Samantha (Norman) Williford and her 2 children; nephew Nick Norman and his wife Erin Funk. She also considered her dear friends, Debbie Miller and Glenda Henson to be family.
Billie loved children, dogs, nature, games, crafts, holidays, pranks, camp songs, swimming, bubbles, and anything purple. She saw beauty in the ordinary and had a playful nature, earning a nickname “Silly Billie” from the children in her life.
Family and friends will gather at Lost Hill Lake Events in St. Clair, Missouri on June 8, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm to celebrate Billie in the fashion she would appreciate – wearing bright colors, playing games, and enjoying the outdoors.
