Barbara Ann Trotter's Obituary
Barbara Ann Trotter, 81, of Weir, KS, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, after a brief illness.
Born on November 10, 1942, in Columbus, KS, Barbara “Barb” was the beloved daughter of Herbert Ernest and Orpha Elizabeth (Simpson) Randall. She graduated from Benton High School outside of Wichita, KS, where she met her high school sweetheart, William Thomas Trotter. Their love story began like a scene from a classic movie – she, the sweet cheerleader, and he, the sports player. On December 23, 1962, they exchanged vows, marking the beginning of their beautiful 61-year journey together. Early in their marriage, they lived in California where she spent her time raising their three children and cheering on Tom at the racetrack.
After relocating to Columbus in 1979, Barb embarked on a career as an administrative assistant at ACE Electric before pursuing her passion for cosmetology. She had clients at her home and then at the J.C. Penny Salon in Pittsburg, KS, where she delighted in making others feel beautiful. Barb was also an avid home decorator and gardener, infusing her home with warmth and beauty.
In retirement, Barb and Tom indulged in their shared love for classic cars, attending cruise nights where they forged lasting friendships and created cherished memories. A devoted sports enthusiast, Barb could often be found cheering on her Kansas City Royals and KU Jayhawks. She also loved to make unscheduled visits to her see and spoil her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Barb will be deeply missed by her devoted husband, Tom; loving children, Stephanie Speer (Justin) of Baxter Springs, KS, and Todd Trotter (Carrie) of Leawood, KS; dear sister, Beverly Boyer of St. Joseph, MO; adored grandchildren, Tara Spencer, Ashley Purvis, Brett Hallam, Baylee Trotter, Brooklyn Speer, and Charlie Trotter; as well as her seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her eldest daughter, Tonya Murdock.
A Celebration of Life to honor Barb will be held from 3:00 to 4:30 pm on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the St. Rose Parish Hall, 129 N. Kansas, Columbus, KS. Family and friends are invited to join together, share cherished memories of Barb, and support one another during the reception.
