Andrew Habjan Jr.'s Obituary
Andrew (Andy) Habjan Jr., 79, died on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Landmark Hospital in
Joplin, MO.
He was born on September 5, 1942 in Skofja Loka, Slovenia, the son of Andrew and Mary (Mlakar) Habjan. Andy immigrated with his family to the United States at the age of 5 beginning school in Arma, KS with little knowledge of the English language.
He graduated from St. Mary’s High School with the class of 1961 and joined the Army Reserves where he served in the military police unit in Fort Gordon, Georgia.
Andy was employed with Bowlus School Supply for many years and retired from the shipping department of Masonite Industries. Andrew married Dianna M. Ross on May 12, 1966; she survives at the home.
He is survived by his wife Dianna and sons, David Habjan, Samuel Habjan and Andrew (Audrey) Habjan III, all of Pittsburg, brother, Joe (Virginia) Habjan, Nevada MO and sisters, Mary Cashero and Theresa Noland of Pittsburg along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in the US, Austria and Slovenia.
He was predeceased by his parents, brothers-in-law and nephew.
Andy will be remembered for his willingness to help out anyone, his work ethic, his commitment to his faith and family and his love of sports especially following the local teams.
Memorials may be made to the Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Fund or the St. Mary’s Colgan Athletics.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00am Wednesday February 9, 2022 at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Jerome Spexarth as celebrant. Rosary will be recited at 9:30am prior to the service. Condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor.com. Arrangements and services are under the direction of Bath-Naylor Funeral Home of Pittsburg, KS.
