Sandra Ann Harper - Messinger

On August 18, 2021 Sandra Ann Harper-Messinger was called home. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in Olathe, Kansas. She was 80 years old. Sandra entered this world in Chanute, Kansas on August 22, 1940. She was born to A.Wayne Lewis and Hazel (Howey-Lewis) Vermillion, who preceeded her in death. She is also preceeded in death by husbands Robbie Gentry, Harry Harper and Roger Messinger, along with her son-in-law Mike Wallace. Sandra is survived by her children Julie (Chris) Meggs, Jim (Julie) Gentry and Laura Wallace, along with six grandchildren, Lee Ann Mahoney (Joe Van Hoecke), Matthew (Kelsey) Mahoney, Shannon Gentry, Shane Gentry, Stephanie (Jayden) Register and Sarah Wallace. Sandra is also survived by two great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons, along with a third great-grandson who will arrived in January. She is also mourned by her sister Jana (John) Lair, a niece, a nephew and their families. Sandra graduated from Pittsburg Senior High School in 1958. During her time in school, Sandra was a member of the student council, the school chorus, GAA, Y-Teens and she was also a homeroom officer. She attended Pittsburg State University in 1959. Sandra loved her family and loved to travel. The places she loved to visit included Las Vegas, Nevada, Beau Rivage Hotel and Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi and Hawaii. Sandra was happiest when surrounded by her family during holidays and special occassions. She took great delight in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During her professional life, Sandra was licensed to sell real estate in Kansas and Missouri and she spent time as an underwriter with United Guaranty. She worked several years for the Crawford County Sheriffs Department before retiring in 1999. The family also wishes to express its thanks to Harbor Hospice for the care they provided Sandra and her family during her last days. Funeral Services will be 1:00pm Saturday August 28, 2021 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS with Chaplain Adah Hutchcraft officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS. Family will receive friends from 11-1:00pm prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the Shriner’s Children Hospital St. Louis, MO.
