Marian Lee Johnson

June 6, 1919 - November 8, 2018

Marian Lee Johnson, 99 of Pittsburg, KS passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Via Christi Village in Pittsburg. She was born June 6, 1919 in Lamar, MO the daughter of Merritt and Beryle (Jones) Hurst. She graduated from Lamar High School in 1936 where she was valedictorian of her class. On January 3, 1938 she was united in marriage to Frank C. Johnson in Lamar; he preceded her in death on January 22, 2002. She and Frank owned and operated Otto’s Café in Pittsburg for 39 years, retiring in 1984. Marian was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg where she was very active as a Sunday school teacher, Chair of the Education Committee, Five Mary's Circle, Chair of the Worship Committee, Secretary of the Administrative Board, active in the Progressive Study Club, Choir and VCT Survivors include a son Darryl Johnson of Leavenworth, KS; a daughter-in-law Sherry Johnson of Pittsburg; four grandchildren: Patrick Marshall of West Palm Beach, FL, Glennis Peck and Mindi Dorsey both of Pittsburg, Jeremy Marshall of Frontenac, KS and 4 additional grandsons, along with seven great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, a son, 6 brothers, a sister, a granddaughter and a great-grandson. Memorial services will be 3:30 pm Friday, November 16, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg with Rev. Mark Chambers officiating. Inurnment of her cremains will take place at Hornet Cemetery at a later date. Condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor.com. Memorials may be made to the first United Methodist Church; these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home. Services are under the direction of the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 522 S. Broadway Pittsburg, KS.
