May 20, 1951 - June 13, 2021

Daniel E. Van Becelaere 70, of Pittsburg, KS died 10:15am Sunday June 13, 2021 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS following a sudden illness. Danny was born May 20, 1951 in Pittsburg, KS the son of Edward Paul and Ruth Ann (Prince) Van Becelaere. He was a lifelong resident of Pittsburg and a graduate of St. Mary’s Colgan where he lettered 3 years in football, basketball and baseball. He was nominated to Boy’s State in high school and was known as a tough hard nose full back on the football field. After high school he attended Kansas Teachers College where he played football. As a young man he helped his father in the fields farming. After college he worked for Gibson’s Discount and managed the store in Ft. Scott, KS; True Value in Pittsburg, KS; retiring from Kansas City Southern Railroad after 24 years and finally he owned and operated Danny’s Place Bar and Grill in Pittsburg, KS. Danny was a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg, KS; he enjoyed golfing, the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, horse racing and socializing and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his siblings Don Van Becelaere and wife Vicki of Pittsburg, KS, David Van Becelaere and wife Jeanine of Pittsburg, KS, Darrell Van Becelaere of Pittsburg, KS, Diane Van Becelaere of Pittsburg, KS, Debbie Deal and husband Terry of Pittsburg, KS, Dennis Van Becelaere and wife Tysha of Pittsburg, KS, Denise McLeod and husband Mike of Pittsburg, KS, Dee Dee Henry and husband Andy of Tucson, AZ and Doug Van Becelaere and wife Shannon of Pittsburg, KS; god children April Narvaez, Whitney McLeod, Belle Henry and Chase Van Becelaere; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Danny was preceded in death by his parents. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00am Saturday June 19, 2021 at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Jerome Spexarth as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS. Family will recite the rosary at 7:00pm Friday June 18, 2021 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS. Family will receive friends from 7:30-8:30 following the rosary. Friends may call the funeral home after 2:00pm Friday. In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to Bath-Naylor Funeral Home to help with final expenses. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 522 S. Broadway Pittsburg, KS 66762. Condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor.com.
