Obituaries
Hazel E. (Bowman) Vineyard, 79, loving wife, mother, and
grandmother, of Pittsburg, Kansas, went home to be with the Lord on
January 2, 2012, at Medicalodge South in Pittsburg where she has
been under care for the past several years. She had also been under
hospice care for the past several weeks.
Hazel was born in Coal Valley, Cherokee County, KS on July 8,
1932, the daughter of Alva and Janet (Howell) Bowman. After
graduating from Weir High School, Hazel married Melvin Vineyard on
July 18, 1950, at the Weir Baptist Church. He survives her at
Medicalodge South.
Hazel was a hard working woman for her family, on the farm, and in
the community. She was employed at Deletters, which is now formally
U.S. Awards, for many years, a short time at Girard Tarp, and finally
retired from Medicalodge South as a laundry worker.
Additional survivors include daughters Gloria, (Gene) Baldwin,
Melody (David) Howerton; Son, Wayne (Sherry) Vineyard; seven
grandchildren, two step grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and
five step-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister, Dixie Anthony;
brother, Robert Bowman; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Mary
Armstrong and Carol Jones.
After cremation, the family will hold graveside services 1pm Friday
January 6, 2012 at the Bird Cemetery near Pittsburg with Rev. James
Shope officiating. Friends and family are requested to meet at the
cemetery for the services. Condolences may be left at
www.bathnaylor.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be
made in her name in care of Bath-Naylor to be designated at a later
date. Family and friends may gather anytime at the Family Homestead
at 759 W. 510th Ave. Pittsburg, KS. Arrangements are by Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home of Pittsburg.
