        Donald Thompson, 70 of Pittsburg died at 11:19 a.m. Wednesday
February 1, 2012 at the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Frontenac.

        He was born December 16, 1941 in Cherokee County , KS the
son of Chester W. and Ines (Standley) Thompson.

        Don was a graduate of Crawford County High School in Cherokee
and then attended PSU for 2 years focusing on drafting technology.

         He worked as a draftsman for the Kansas City Re-development
Authority in Kansas City , MO , was the owner/operator of the Cherokee
Liquor Store, worked for Parson’s Motors and O’Reilly Auto Parts in
Pittsburg and worked for a number of years for Monsour’s Warehouse.  
He also enjoyed and was a very skilled carpenter and a collector of
statues, figurines, etc.

        Don was of the Methodist faith and was a former member of the
Cherokee United Methodist Church .

        Survivors include 3 brothers-Howard Thompson of Pittsburg ,
Gary Thompson of Cherokee, Roger Thompson of Parsons; numerous
nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.  He was
preceded in death by his parents, a sister Caroldene Lovelady, a
brother Harold Thompson and 2 nephews Mike Lovelady and Kenny
Thompson.

        According to Don’s wishes he has been taken for cremation.  
Graveside memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday February 7, 2012
at the Cherokee City Cemetery with Caption Chuck Cook officiating.  
Friends and family are asked to meet at the cemetery.  Condolences
