Obituaries
      Jack George Sanford Sr., 86 of Columbus passed from this life at 10:
50 p.m. Wednesday August 18, 2010 at the Maude Norton Hospital in
Columbus .

      He was born July 16, 1924 in Columbus , KS the son of Burl K. and
Lela Mae (Rumery) Sanford.

      Jack attended schools in Mt. Hope , KS ; Cottonwood Falls , KS ;
Baxter Springs , KS and was a 1942 graduate of Columbus High School .  
He later received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Business
Administration Degrees at Golden Gate University , San Francisco .

      After high school, Jack worked for a brief time for WIBW in Topeka ,
KS .  

      Jack served his country in the United State Army from 1942 to 1945
in the Seventh Armored Division, and was a part of the historic “ Battle of
the Bulge.”  He served as President of “The Lucky Seventh” from 2003
through 2006.

      Jack was an electrical engineer, working for the University of
California Radiation Lab in Berkeley and Lawrence Livermore
Laboratory.  He later worked as a Video Engineer with Cohu Electronics,
TriTronics, and at Vindicator Corp.  He obtained several patents.

      While living in California Jack was a member of the Emmanuel
Lutheran Church in Saratoga and was currently a member of the First
United Methodist Church of Columbus.  He was active in the choir at both
churches and also at the non-denominational worship services of Valle
de Oro Senior Resort, Mesa , AZ ; he was also a member of the
Columbus American Legion Post #3 and the 7th Armored Division
Association.

He married Brigitta Hansch on August 23, 1952 in Berkely , California ;
she preceded him in death on June 30, 1984.  He then married Elizabeth
(Bradney) Gleason on April 15, 1989 in Columbus , KS ; she survives at
the home.

      Survivors include his wife Elizabeth of the home; two sons Jack
George Sanford Jr. and wife Patti of Reno, NV, Charles Kenneth Sanford
and wife Jennifer of Tempe, AZ; step-daughter Cheryl Gleason of
Topeka, KS; step-sons Brad Gleason and wife Cindy of Columbus, KS,
Brent Gleason and wife Terra of Carl Junction, MO; his sister Beverly
White of St. Louis, MO; 13 grandchildren-Sara, Andrea, Caitlin, Matthew,
Joe and Nathan Sanford, Meredith Mosley, Matthew, Michael, Amber,
Tyler, Ryan and Alyssa Gleason and 3 great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his parents, first wife and his brother Robert
Sanford.

      Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday August 24th at the
Columbus First United Methodist Church with Reverend Susan Daniel-
Brey officiating.  Full Military Honors will be provided by the 101st
Battalion Support Brigade from Fort Riley , KS .  Military Rites will be
conducted following the funeral services.  Burial will be Saturday August
28 at 11 a.m. at Madronia Cemetery in Saratoga, CA.  The family will
receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Monday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in
Columbus where friends may call after 4 p.m. Monday.  Condolences can
