Obituaries
Calvin James “Jim” Powers, 81 of Pittsburg, KS passed from this life
surrounded by loved ones on September 19, 2011.

He was born September 7, 1930 in Fredonia, KS the son of Homer and
Jeanette (Pease) Powers.  He graduated from Fredonia High School.

Jim worked as a miner in Idaho and also worked at the Portland Cement
Plant in Fredonia.

On January 14, 1955 he was united in marriage to LaVerna Mae Wilson
in Wallace Idaho.  She preceded him in death after 41 years of marriage.

For the last six years of his life, he resided at Medicalodge South in
Pittsburg, where the nurses slipped him candy whenever he wanted it.

Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman, and all around outdoorsman.  He
was an excellent baseball player and loved to sing.  He trained hunting
dogs, and taught his children and grandchildren how to play dominos
and cribbage, how to tie a fly, and all the words to “Faded Love”.

Survivors include a daughter Anna Mae Powers of Pittsburg, a
granddaughter LaShawna Blaise Powers of Pittsburg, 2 step-sons:
Charles Cravens and wife Crystal of Winfield, KS and Wesley Cravens of
Oklahoma City, OK; several step-grandchildren and step-great-
grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter Starrleen Blaise
Powers, 2 sisters: Jacqueline Powers and Mary Powers, 4 brothers: Juan
Powers, Homer Powers,Harold Powers and Larry Powers.

Graveside services will be 10 am, Monday, September 26, 2011 at the
Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville, KS with Rev. James Fellers officiating.  
Family will receive friends at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home from 6-8 pm,
Saturday, September 24.  Condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor.
com.  Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society; these
