SCAMMON — Harold O’Malley, 97 of rural Scammon, KS died at 8:28
pm, Saturday, May 8, 2010 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS.
He was born Dec 27, 1912 in rural West Mineral, KS the son of Patrick
Phillip and Elizabeth (St. John’s) O’Malley. He attended the Coal Valley
rural school and graduated from the Cherokee High School.
On August 31, 1937 he was united in marriage to Anna Marie Pomatto at
the St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, KS; she preceded him in
death December 25, 1968.
Harold was a self employed Farmer, Dairyman and Agribusinessman.
He was a lifetime area resident and a member of the St. Bridget’s
Catholic Church. Additional memberships include the Weir Civic Club,
Soil Conservation Committee in Cherokee County, former Weir School
board member and The National Farmers Organization.
Survivors include four sons: Phillip O’Malley and wife Lisa of rural
Pittsburg, Jim O’Malley and wife Liz of rural Scammon, Charles E. O’
Malley and wife Joyce of rural Scammon and Larry O’Malley and wife
Peggy of Independence, KS; three daughters: Elizabeth Anna Starns and
husband Max of Odessa, MO, Mary Sue Scheifelbein and husband Mark
of Pittsburg and Rose Marie Wydick of Weir; a sister Mary Elizabeth O’
Malley of Weir; 26 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, an infant son Joseph, two
brothers: Ralph O’Malley and Dave O’Malley, a grandson Steve Anthony
Scheifelbein and a granddaughter Lisa Maria Wydick.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am, Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at the
St. Bridget’s Catholic Church with Fr. Chrysostom Ah Maung and Fr.
Thomas Stroot as concelebrants. Burial will follow in the St. Bridget’s
Catholic Cemetery. Parish rosary will be recited at 7 pm, Tuesday, May
11 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir, where family will receive
friends following the rosary. Condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor.
com. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s and/or Angels Among Us.
These may be left at or mailed to the funeral home. Services and
arrangements are under the direction of the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home
of Weir, KS.
