Obituaries

PITTSBURG — Philip W. Mullinix, 81 of Pittsburg died at 7:50 am,
Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center
following a brief illness.
He was born October 22, 1928 in Ft. Leavenworth, KS the son of Lorin
and Aileen (Dicus) Mullinix.
He enlisted in the US Marine Corps on May 31, 1950 where he served as
a Drill Instructor and is a Purple Heart Recipient of the Korean War. He
continued to serve until Honorably Discharged in 1965.
After retiring from the USMC he worked for the State of Kansas as Office
Manager for the Kansas Unemployment Insurance System, he retired
from the State in 1993.
On December 20, 1952 he was united in marriage to Patricia C. Mudd in
Walnut, KS; she preceded him in death on February 6, 2009.
Philip was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in
Pittsburg, served as a member of the Elks Lodge, and as a volunteer for
Meals-on-Wheels and Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include a son Paul Mullinix and wife Margo of Pittsburg; two
granddaughters Haley Mullinix of Pittsburg and McKenna England of
Knoxville, TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a brother Richard
Mullinix.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 am Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at
Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Stroot as
Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Ft. Scott National Cemetery at 2:30 pm.
Liturgical Prayer Services will be 7pm, Tuesday at the Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home where the family will receive friends following the prayer
service. The US Marine Corp Funeral Honors Detail Team will provide
Military Rites at the Graveside. Condolences may be left at www.
