Obituaries
PITTSBURG — Peter T. Monsour, Jr., 74, of Pittsburg, KS, peacefully
passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, after suffering heart failure.
He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren, many of whom
provided his day and night care.
He was born July 26, 1935, to Pete Monsour, Sr. and Zina (Thomas)
Monsour. He attended St. Mary’s Grade and High School and graduated
in 1955. Pete then attended and graduated from KSTC (now Pittsburg
State University). On September 27, 1958, he married Maralyne J.
Owens from Nevada, MO; she survives at the home. They lived in El
Paso, TX, where Pete served as a Second Lieutenant in the Army. After
serving his country, he joined his father and brothers in the family
produce business.
Upon his retirement, he became owner and operator of Crawford County
Mini Storage in Pittsburg.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and served
on the St. Mary’s Colgan School Board as both a member and as
president.
Pete is survived by his wife, Maralyne, daughters Marisa Monsour,
Alesia (Larry) McDonald of Clinton, MO, Zena (John) Weist of Overland
Park, KS, and son Peter Monsour III. He is also survived by eleven
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Joe and Richard,
a daughter Annette Molina of St. Louis, MO, and a sister-in-law Corinne
(McGavran) Monsour.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am, Friday, June 25, 2010, at the Our
Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Adam Keiter as celebrant.
Burial will follow at the Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS. Rosary
will be recited at 7pm, Thursday, June 24, 2010, at the Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS; family will receive friends following the
rosary. Friends may call the funeral home after 1pm, Thursday. In lieu
of flowers the family ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of
memorials to Harry Hynes Hospice and/or St. Mary’s Altar Society. E-
