Obituaries

Oliver Ray Minor, 76 yrs of age, of Joplin, Mo, passed away on October
24, 2009, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin. He was born in Prairie Grove,
Arkansas on August 24, 1933 to Lewis Minor and Bessie Oliver. He
spent his childhood in West Mineral, Kansas and served in the US Army
during the Korean Conflict. He later earned a technical degree from
Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg, Ks in electronics. Oliver
worked for 25 years at Pittsburg State University as an Electrical
Supervisor and Energy Management System Supervisor. He retired
early due to his health in 1988. During the interim he was an avid bowler
and had a real passion for fishing. Oliver married Dorothy Rae Kretchet
on May 15, 1953 and she preceded him in death in December 1997.
Oliver later moved to Joplin, Mo to share a home with his loving and long
time companion Treva M. Ferrier. He also enjoyed a special relationship
with her son John "Skip" Ferrier as well as with her entire extended
family. The two shared membership in the Forest Park Baptist Church in
Joplin.
Oliver belonged to many service organizations including: lifetime
memberships in the American Legion Post #64 and the VFW Post #1372
and the DAV, all in Pittsburg. He also belonged to the Joplin Elks Lodge
#501, Adbou Ben Adhem Shriners of Springfield, Mo, The Burning Sands
Joplin Shrine Club, Masonic Lodge #681, Scottish rites 33rd, Eagles Club
of West Mineral, Four States Family Fishing Club, and ABC bowling.
Oliver had two children, a son, Oliver "Ray" Minor, Jr. who preceded him
in death in December of 2006 and a daughter Kathryn "Kathy"
Hernandez who lives with her husband Michael in Springfield, MO. He
has three grandchildren, Heather Harris of Everett, Washington, Kelli
Minor of Decatur, MI and Christopher Minor of Lawrence, KS. He had
three great-grandchildren, Whitney and Kelsey Ann Harris and Olive
Minor. He had many other family members and friends who will miss him.
Funeral services will be 2 pm, Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at the
Bath-Naylor Funeral Home with Rev. John Swadley officiating. Burial will
follow in the Highland Park Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the
funeral home from 7-8 pm Tuesday evening. Condolences may be left at
