Obituaries
Alice M. Melton 92, of Cherokee, KS went to be with the Lord at 3am
Thursday January 19, 2012 at her home following an illness.
Alice was born December 30, 1919 in Girard, KS the daughter of John
E. Shepherd and Armelda (Wheeler) Newport. She was a lifelong
resident of the area and attended Helmic School east of Weir, KS.
On November 29, 1933 Alice married Everett E. Melton in Weir, KS; he
preceded her in death on September 23, 1993. Alice was a
homemaker. She was a member of the Faith Tabernacle Church in
Weir, KS; she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting and loved to be
involved with the church.
Survivors include her children Norvella Boccia and husband Carmen of
Pittsburg, KS, Arelva Brynds and husband Ted of Cherokee, KS, James
E. Melton and wife Gertrude of Stilwell, KS, April Faruggia and husband
Ray of Stilwell, KS and Rosalee Monroe and husband Harold Randolph
of Weir, KS; 18 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, several
great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 13 brothers and
sisters and a grandson Chris Simpson.
Funeral Services will be 10am Saturday January 21, 2012 at the Faith
Tabernacle Church in Weir, KS with Rev. James Fellers officiating.
Burial will follow at Crocker Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS. Family will
receive friends from 7-8pm Friday January 20, 2012 at the Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home in Weir, KS; friends may call after 2pm Friday. In lieu of
flowers the family ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of
memorials to the FCA Bible School. Friends may drop off or mail
