Obituaries
Eldon Eugene Meister, 81 of Cherokee, KS passed away Wednesday,
September 7, 2011 at his home.
        He was born October 20, 1929 in Burlington, OK the son of Jabez
Eldon and Emma I. (Kraft) Meister.  After Eldon graduated from
Burlington High School, he went on to Pittsburg State University where he
earned a degree as a Mechanic Tech.  Eldon served in the Army during
the Korean War, where he was active from October 2, 1951 until
September of 1953.  He was in the reserves until 1959.
        On September 28, 1951 he married Shirley Stolte.  Together they
had 6 children before later divorcing.  He later married Elaine Potocnik
Scott February 22, 1975 in Pittsburg.  She survives of the home.
        Eldon worked for Viets Implement in Brazilton, KS after returning
from the Army.  He then went on to work for Crawford County Implement
Ford Tractor dealer from 1958 – 1973.  After that he went on to work for
Poli-Tron Inc. in Pittsburg.  He later became part owner, retiring in 1994.
         He was of Christian Faith.  He was a member of the American
Legion, Post 26 of Girard.  Lifetime member of the Weir Saddle club,
member of the NRA and Good Sam’s Club.
        Survivors include his wife Elaine, of the home.  1 son, Ed Meister
and wife Diana, of Pittsburg.  5 daughters, Sherry Blair and husband
Don; Betty Lehman and husband John; and Susan Buckle all of Girard,
KS; Judy Spears and husband Dean; Sandy Casey and husband Todd
both of Pittsburg.  1 step-son David Scott and wife Rohini of Shawnee,
KS and a step-daughter, Brenda Black and husband Patrick of Mound
City, KS.  13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 11 step-
grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-great
grandchildren.  1 brother, Dale Meister of Peoria, IL; 4 sisters, Grace
Post and Husband Gordon, Maydell  Meister, both of Peoria; Mary Beth
McCord and husband Bob of Garnett, KS and Lynn Hedrick of Mission,
KS.  And several nieces and nephews.
        He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 grandson Joshua
Buckle; a Step-grandson Jordan Scott and a brother-in-law Bill Hedrick.  
        Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, September 10, 2011
at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir, KS with Pastor Dennis Johnson
officiating.  Burial will follow at the Cherokee Cemetery with Military
Honors by the American Legion Post 26.  Visitation will be from 7 pm until
8 pm. Friday, September 9.  Friends may call the funeral home anytime

Memorials may be made out to the Harry Hines Hospice Care of
Pittsburg/Cherokee Baptist Church and/or Cherokee Methodist Church.
