Obituaries
Dr. Linda Jones McCoy, 70 of Pittsburg, KS died at 10:20pm Sunday
November 27, 2011at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS.  Linda was
born October 27, 1941 in Holton, KS to Wayne D. Jones and Lillie Bell
Beamer Jones.

She attended Woodlawn School in rural Sabetha, KS and graduated
from Sabetha High School in 1959. Upon graduation she worked as a
legal secretary for a law firm in Topeka, KS. She then attended the
University of Kansas and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in
Elementary Education, a Master’s degree in Education, and a
Doctorate of Education.

She taught first grade at Broken  Arrow Elementary School in
Lawrence, KS, supervised teachers for the University of Kansas, and
accepted a position at Pittsburg State University School of Education in
1976 where she taught courses in elementary reading. She authored
several books on the instruction of reading and published numerous
articles. She retired as University Professor in 2005.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she
served on various church committees and as Sunday school
superintendent. She was a member of the International Reading
Association, past president of the Kansas Reading Association, Phi
Kappa Phi, Delta Kappa Gamma, and lifetime member of the University
of Kansas Alumni Association.

She is survived by her husband, Keith L. McCoy, of the home; two sons,
Patrick McCoy and his wife, Yun Jung of Fayetteville, NC, and Paul
McCoy of Twenty-nine Palms, CA; two daughters, Elizabeth McCoy
Crabill and her husband, Emerson Crabill of Lincoln, NE and Kara
McCoy Killinger and her husband Ronald Killinger of Park City, KS;
brothers, James Jones and wife Patsy of Netawaka, KS and Hugh
William Jones and wife Linda of Holton, KS; grandchildren, Sean McCoy
and Charity McCoy; as well as daughters Jennifer Swalley of Queens,
NY and Vera Kononova Brown of Richmond, VA and grandson Jacob
Brown of Richmond, VA; 19 nieces and nephews and 25great-nieces
and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Constance
Jones Niquette.

Memorial Services will be 2pm Wednesday November 30, 2011at the
First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg, KS with the Reverend Jim
Aikins officiating. Inurnment in Netawaka, KS will follow at a later date in
a private ceremony. Family will receive friends from 6-7pm Tuesday
November 29, 2011 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS.  
In lieu of flowers, the family asks expressions of sympathy be in the
form of memorials to the First United Methodist Church-Korean Ministry
Fund or Pittsburg State University Foundation-Delta Kappa Gamma
Student Teacher Scholarship. Email condolences may be left at www.
