Obituaries
Fred Hodge 83, of Columbus , KS died 12:56am Thursday August 4,
2011 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin , MO following a short illness.
Fred was born February 10, 1928 in Protem , MO the son of Hershel Lee
and Alma (Jones) Hodge. He served his country in the US Army as a
Switchboard Operator from 1946-1949. On May 6, 1952 he married
Pauline Beasley in New Mexico ; she survives at the home.
Fred was retired from the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant where he
worked as an Electronics Technician. Fred had the unique ability to fix
anything from washing machines to cars and everything between. In his
later years he raised cattle and rebuilt alternators and starters. Fred in
his free time also was known as an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife; sons Gary and Carolyn Hodge of Miami, OK,
Steve and Cami Hodge of Carl Junction, MO; grandchildren Brian Dale
Hodge of Jenks, OK, Jacob Barchardt and Tiffany Spring Hodge Willis;
brothers Otto and Leaulah Hodge of Rural Columbus, KS and Dee and
Delores Hodge of Columbus, KS; sisters Ruth Marrow of Lake Worth, FL
and Sybil Koyer of Columbus, KS and many nieces, nephews and a host
of other family and friends.
Fred was preceded in death by a son David Hodge; brothers H.L. Hodge
and Lonnie Hodge and a sister Ruby Waters.
Funeral Services will be 10am Monday August 8, 2011 at the Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home in Columbus , KS with Elder Jerry Swopes officiating.
Burial will follow at the Park Cemetery in Columbus , KS . Family will
receive friends from 6-7pm Sunday August 7, 2011 at the funeral home;
