Fred Everett Henderson of Cherokee, KS passed from this life on the
28 day of December, 2011. He was 76.
Fred began his life in Columbus, KS on March 24, 1935 as a blessing
to the family of E.W.”Dick” and Lois Henderson where he earned the
spot as the “baby of the bunch”.
After completing high school in Cherokee, KS Fred chose to serve his
country with a dedicated career from 1954 to 1974 in the United States
Air Force. He served during the Korean War, the Vietnam War and did
several tours in Southeast Asia and Europe during his time of service.
During that time he met and married the love of his life Patricia Anne
Calkins and raised a family of three children while traveling the world for
his country. Soon after retiring from the service, Fred and his family
returned to the Pittsburg, KS area.
After his return home Fred continued serving his fellow man by being
actively involved in the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars,
and the National Elks Association which were very important to him. He
was also in the fraternal order of the Masons. He was an avid golfer
and sportsman. He loved traveling the United States and meeting with
old and new friends.
Fred has left behind his three children and their spouses, Sharon and
Joe Propernick of Gypsum CO, Stacy and Mike Brumback of Pittsburg,
KS and Scott and Brenda Henderson of Cherokee, KS. , Twelve
grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, beloved wives Patricia,
Sharon, Carolyn and Betty, and the greatest brothers in the world,
Kenneth and Bob Henderson and sister-in-law Betty Henderson. As well
as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents E.W .Henderson and Lois
Henderson, His brother Carl Henderson, his sister Kathleen Sharp, his
half brother Dale Haskins, his half sister Norva Cushman and his loving
wife Shyrlee Henderson.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, December 31,
2011 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg. Burial will follow at
the Cherokee Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home
from 6-7 pm Friday evening. Condolences may be left at www.
bathnaylor.com. The KS ARNG Honor Guard will provide Military
honors at the graveside. In Lieu of flowers Fred would have greatly
appreciated a donation to the National Elks Foundation; these may be
