Obituaries
Florence E. Guison (Helms), 101 of Scammon died at 11:47 a.m.
Thursday April 1, 2010 at the Via Christi Village Nursing Facility in
Pittsburg.

She was born March 2, 1909 in Stone City, KS the daughter of Ark
Edward and Virginia Bell (Tarter) Helms.  She was a lifetime resident of
the Scammon area and was a graduate of Scammon High School.

Florence married Fernand (Frenchie) Guison Jr. on January 9, 1927 in
Joplin, MO; he preceded her in death on January 29, 1976.

She was an LPN working for Maude Norton Memorial Hospital until her
retirement, and prior to that she worked as a Telephone Operator in
Scammon.

Florence was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star,
Maudies Ladies, Pinochle Club, she was the 2008 queen of Little Balkan’
s, she enjoyed extensive traveling and going to the casino’s.  

Survivors include her daughter Mary Johnson of Scammon, KS; daughter-
in-law Jean (Haymore) Guison; 21 Grandchildren and over 150 Great
and Great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her
parents, husband, 2 sons Francis and Jean Guison; 2 daughters Irma
Groves and Flora Jane Babcock McCormick; 5 Grandchildren; 1 sister
Eva Lanning and 6 brothers Alvia, Arley, Dewey, Virgil, Cecil and Burnice
Helms.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday April 6, 2010 at the Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home in Weir  Services will be conducted by the grandchildren.  
Burial will follow in the Edgmand Cemetery in Columbus.  The family will
receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home where friends
